How Do You Get to Carnegie Hall?

We've all heard this joke before. The answer, of course, is "Practice". Athletes practice. Musicians practice. But do photographers practice? Yes, but perhaps not in the same way.

Practice can feel like a chore, just one more thing in a busy schedule. But if it is seen as an opportunity to do what you love on a regular basis, it becomes something to anticipate rather than dread.

The more you shoot, the faster you will see improvement in your photography. Think about composition, lighting, depth of field. What do you want the photo to look like? When you look at your photos on your computer, ask yourself if the result was what you expected. If not, can you determine what you could do different next time? You can always ask someone at a camera club meeting!

Wondering what to shoot? There are websites that list ideas for a photo-a-day or photo-a-week. Shoot something to fit the weekly challenge on our Facebook group (you don't need to be a club member to join this group). If you are a club member, shoot for the Themed Challenge, Scavenger Hunt, or Quarterly Competition. Attend a field trip.

Most of all, have fun! Remember, the only person you really need to please is yourself.

Happy shooting!
