~ Please view this document to read about the Springfield - Greene County Botanical Center and Gardens photography policy.

~ The Botanical Center will be moving to spring/summer hours starting April 1st and will open 8:00am-8:00pm Mon-Sat and 11am to 6:00pm on Sunday. As always, the gardens and grounds open at sunrise and close at sunset.

Photo Opportunities/Events:

The following classes will be at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center in the 114-acre Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, 2400 S. Scenic Ave. Seating is limited; reserve space by calling the Botanical Center at 417-891-1515. The workshop is designed for adults and teens accompanied by a parent.

~ Photography Basics for Beginners (DSLR camera), 9 a.m.-noon June 22. Terry Burnes will begin with 30 minutes of instruction followed by time in the gardens practicing photography in small groups with the assistance of members of the SWMO Camera Club. Bring a camera, manual and tripod. Fee: $20

~ Flower Photography, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 26. Alan O'Neal begins his class with nontechnical suggestions on how to take good flower photos, followed by an outdoor picture-taking session in the gardens, and ending with a return to the classroom to critique. Participants should have a working knowledge of their camera. Bring a camera, telephoto lens if you have one, camera instruction manual and a sack lunch. (Rain date is June 27.) Fee: $20

~ Basic Matting and Framing Techniques for Photographs, 10-11:30 a.m. June 29. Gordon Stump will facilitate this class; you will learn how to preserve valued photographs, discuss types of pre-cut mats and frames, and watch a demonstration of how to cut a mat, mount and frame a photograph. Bring questions. Fee $10
